Kenya is the lead market for this service. The customer's phone number is associated with an e-money account. The customer sends instructions to move e-money to another account by sending a message to the VMT server by SMS*. A customer can send money to another mobile phone user; buy airtime for themselves or another prepaid subscriber, pay bills and make loan repayments. Customers can deposit and withdraw cash by visiting an agent who buys and sells e-money, and earns commission for doing so.
